Blog advertising company, Chitika, roles out its Related Product Unit to network

ChitikaChitika has rolled out its Related Product Unit to its network of 17,000 plus blogs and websites after it proved a big success with selected publishers during beta testing.

Chitika says its Related Product Unit (RPU) is "a first-of-its-kind online advertising unit" that can be strategically placed on a publisher’s website or blog to monetise site space that is typically not generating any advertising revenue.

The RPU was specifically designed to be placed below the text of a posting or article and above the “related links” section. Chitika argues that since no other advertising units are designed to capitalise on this space, the revenue generated by an RPU is all incremental for the publisher.

“Our mission is to help publishers maximize their revenue opportunity without jeopardizing their relationships with readers,” said Venkat Kolluri, CEO of Chitika.

“The RPU is yet another complementary ad unit, similar to our new Viral Branding Unit, which enhances the look, feel and utility of the site and increases its earnings. This focus on the total experience is why our network is not only a major money-maker for our publishers, but also why it is the best at engaging buyers, publishers and brands in relevant, meaningful and sustainable conversations.”

I4U, a technology and gadget news website, took part in the beta trials of the RPU and it proved an immediate success.

Like all content publishers, I4U's Chief Editor, Luigi Lugmayr, was looking to boost revenue without overloading his pages with advertising and because they don't look like ads, RPUs offered an opportunity to do just that.

“I have seen an overall advertising revenue increase of 15% immediately after using Chitika's Related Product Unit,” said Luigi.

Founded in 2003, Chitika now serves more than one billion ads per month and counting across its network of publishers.
