T-Mobile offers free WiFi as part of mobile broadband price plan

T-MobileGood news for internet entrepreneurs who work wherever the fancy takes them. T-Mobile has become the first UK mobile broadband operator to offer access to its WiFi network as part of its mobile broadband price plans.

Starting at £20.00 per month (less if you already have a Flext mobile contract), the T-Mobile Mobile Broadband service gives you access to the internet through your laptop wherever you have mobile phone coverage in the UK - and now via T-Mobile's WiFi network. All you have to do is plug in the free USB modem and away you go!

Perfect if you want to work in a library, a hotel, at the park, at a customer's location, in your back garden or at your local coffee shop. Mobile Broadband means you are no longer confined to your desk and chair - a huge benefit for internet entrepreneurs on the move.

T-Mobile's WiFi network is the largest in the world, with over 1,000 WiFi hotspots in the UK at airports, mainline train stations, motorway service stations, Starbuck coffee shops and other locations. You will also have access to T-Mobile's network of 39,000 Hotspots around the world (roaming charges apply outside of the UK).

One off use of a T-Mobile Hotspot in the UK costs from £5 an hour, but for T-Mobile Mobile Broadband coverage unlimited use is now including in your monthly payment.

So you can now like Starbucks coffee shops, airports, main-line train stations, service stations and hundreds of other locations in the UK, without paying extra to connect to wireless hotspots.

T-Mobile and 3 have also reached a deal that will integrate their 3G radio access networks (the mobile masts and the infrastructure that connects to each operator’s core network), creating Europe’s most extensive HSDPA network. This will lead to almost complete population coverage for 3G services across Britain by the end of 2008 - meaning faster connections for mobile broadband users.

"We’ve already built a market-leading high-speed 3G network nationwide," said Richard Warmsley, T-Mobile’s Head of Internet on the Move. "Now we’re strengthening our lead in mobile broadband by adding our wi-fi HotSpots. So as well as comprehensive 3G HSDPA coverage, you can be sure of a fast connection where it matters most - at no extra cost.

"We’re the only network to include unlimited use of our own HotSpots. We recognise that it’s a quick reliable connection that matters most, not the technology you use to get online.

"We also focus on simple fixed price plans that never have any extra charges, no matter how much surfing you need. Now with our recent 3 network collaboration and the addition of HotSpots in our plans you can be sure that T-Mobile offers the best Mobile Broadband service in the UK."

To take advantage of T-Mobile's Mobile Broadband packages your laptop will have to have the following specifications:

Processor: Pentium 500MHz or above
Memory: 128MB RAM or above
Hard Disk: 50MB free disk space
Operating system: Windows Vista, XP (Service pack 2), 2000 and Apple Mac OS X 10.2.6 or higher (Apple Mac Leopard is not currently supported)
Display resolution: 800 x 600 pixels or above (1024 x 768 is recommended)
Data card options also available

Then it's just a case of signing up with T-Mobile and plufgging in your free USB modem! For more details visit the T-Mobile website.

Five Questions to find out what makes an internet entrepreneur tick?

Kieran Donoghue

"I believe some people have a little something in their head that makes them look at things in a slightly different way. Some people absolutely cannot envisage doing anything but working for somebody else - and that is fine. However I believe entrepreneurs are born and will always find a way to do things differently."
