By way of an introduction . . . Back in 1994, two students at Stanford University were neglecting their studies. Together they had created "Jerry's Guide To The World Wide Web" and instead of working on their their dissertations, they spent their days holed up in a trailer home - surrounded by empty pizza boxes and dirty clothes - visiting and cataloguing thousands of websites.
As its popularity grew, David Filo and Jerry Wang decided that a name change was in order and so Yahoo! was born. The rest as they say is history, but I'm sure more than one person uttered those immortal words to them in those early days. You need to get out more. The thing about the internet is that it is incredibly addictive. You log on for "five minutes" and before you know it an hour (or three) has passed. And it's even worse if you are an internet entrepreneuir working on your latest project, be it the next Yahoo! or eBay, or a website with less lofty ambitions. I can spend ten, 12, 14 hours a day online. Easily. More than is good for me no doubt and I too probably "need to get out more". But even if I did get out more, the chances of me meeting another internet entrepreneur to bounce ideas off isn't that great. And ordinary mortals just don't understand the buzz and excitement that comes with the territory of trying to build an online business. Try telling someone in the pub about your "ten thousand visitor day" or "a great little affilate programme" that you've discovered and watch their eyes glaze over. All the same, wouldn't it be great if you could go somewhere and chew the fat with fellow entrepreneurs? And even better if you could get there without leaving your computer screen :-) Enter the Internet Entrepreneurs website - www.internetentrepreneurs.co.uk. My hope is that it develops into a virtual meeting place for anyone and everyone who is making money online or who would like to. A place where you can network with fellow entrepreneurs. If it sounds like a place you'd like to hang out, come on in. |
